Celebrating The Year Of The Dragon

Help me give my students a variety of ways to learn about and celebrate Chinese New Year with books and two dragon bouncy hoppers.

My Project

Chinese New Year is widely celebrated in Hawaii. And every year prior to Covid, I introduced the topic with a fabulous field trip to Downtown Honolulu on the city bus to take in the street activities including lion and dragon dances and the special displays and food preparations. It was an energetic visit to a historic and cultural part of town, always filled with curiosities and new discoveries. Unfortunately, Covid took an economic toll on Chinatown and with so many shuttered businesses, the field trip is off the calendar this year.

However, that doesn't mean we can't celebrate at school.

The books will provide engaging age-level stories about Chinese New Year, and the dragon bouncy will make add some gross motor fun. The kids are going to love it!! In addition, my plan is to have the children pass out the red envelopes as part of social engagement with the other elementary students. In turn, I will surprise them with their own Chinese New Year coloring book.
