Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I have been using an app on my phone to print pictures that look like polaroids of my senior students to celebrate their success in graduating and the excitement of their next chapter. I hang the pictures of all seniors willing to participate up on the wall that is decorated with lights and as they decide future plans they come back and write on the photo the name of where they plan to study, or military branch they are joining, or if they have secured a job in the community, etc. They love seeing the display and will proudly take pictures of their picture and look to see where their peers are headed off to next fall. Parents who come in all comment on the wall and love to see their child celebrated. Underclassmen always look at the display and feel excited for when they will be able to get their photo on the wall. They are motivated by seeing what the seniors are doing and where they are headed.

I am hoping to get a polaroid camera with film to make getting the pictures up on the wall fast.

Normally it will take time before I can capture enough photos of students to make it worth a trip to cvs to print out the photos. This creates a lag in the time between when they took the photo and when I am able to get them up on the wall. Additionally, I had one senior decide last year on the very last day she wanted to participate but there was no way for me to get her hanging up on the wall before the end of the school day. I felt bad that she was unable to see herself being celebrated.
