Everyday my scholars come to school ready to learn and grow as part of our fourth grade family! Once a week, we join the rest of lower academy in the gym for morning assembly. As assembly ends, you will hear "Where are you headed? College! Will you succeed? Yes! When you succeed, what will you do? Change history and give back to my community!" This is the chant that our fabulous scholars recite as they exit dismissal and head eagerly back to class to learn! They say it with conviction and I believe them one hundred percent.
My scholars face unimaginable challenges but are working hard daily to change their own story as well as the history of their community!
I teach in a high needs, public school in Milwaukee where a very small percentage of our scholars are on grade level in reading or math. One hundred percent of our scholars receive free breakfast and lunch daily. In my classroom, I get the privilege of teaching sixty-five scholars math everyday. These scholars often struggle with basic math concepts and it is up to me to provide them with instruction of grade level content and build their confidence.
"Learners today, leaders tomorrow. Through academic development and strength in character." My scholars recite these words everyday and we work hard to not just say them, but to truly live out these words by striving to grow and succeed each and every day. Not only do my scholars face personal struggles daily but this year, have had to overcome several classroom changes and struggles as well. However, they continue to be resilient and amaze me everyday with their perseverance and growth.
The materials in this project will help me to show my scholars how proud I am of their character and academic growth this year!
I tell them daily these small trinkets will serve as additional reminders and incentives of how proud I am of the way they show up daily, face their challenges head on and continue to succeed everyday!
