Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

This year, a phenomenal group of young women at Northwest Middle School have been participating in SPARCS with the guidance of their school counselors. SPARCS stands for Structured Psychotherapy for Adolescents Responding to Chronic Stress. It's a group therapy program designed for adolescents aged 12-21 who have experienced chronic trauma or stress. SPARCS aims to improve their emotional, social, academic, and behavioral functioning.

We would like to recognize these young women for their personal growth, dedication to the process and their resiliency in group with a small celebration.

Being a middle school student is difficult enough, these students have shown strength in addressing their traumas, triggers and perseverance. We would like to show our appreciation with an end of the year final meeting, complete with snacks, awards and an activity as we head into summer. Students in this group learned coping strategies, worked on communication skills, and looked at how their own experiences have shaped them as young people. We are so proud of the work they have done!
