This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My classroom is a self-contained kindergarten class. My student population consists of students with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Learning Disabilities, and Intellectual Disabilities.
Working with this population can be difficult, but it is super rewarding within this environment.
I teach the most interesting, caring, well-behaved scholars ever! My school is a student-centered environment filled with "World-Class Teachers!" As a team, we are continuously brainstorming ways to evolve as educators, and we are also advocates for family involvement in the learning process!
My Project
Dr. Seuss said that “The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.” This project will allow my students to reach that goal one book at a time. I want my students to always have books around them, at school and at their home. I want them to be be eager about reading, to find joy in reading. We can accomplish this by giving them the opportunity to purchase books that interest them. With the Scholastic Book Club Coupons, my students would be able to choose books that they like, increasing their willingness to pick up a book and read.
More importantly, we would be able to purchase books at their reading level.
To help my students read their Scholastic Books independently I would like to purchase a Reading Intervention Binder from Teachers Pay Teachers. The binder will allow my students to practice tracking print, identifying sounds, and decoding. I also want to get my students a writing prompt activity from Teachers Pay Teachers. This will allow them to write their own books that they can share with their peers and families.
