My Students

First and second graders are energetic, enthusiastic, and super social. They are so enjoyable to be around. They love being involved in the learning process and want to succeed. Our goal as a classroom is that we enter the classroom each day ready to try new things and be brave to make mistakes. Mistakes lead to learning. As a teacher in an impoverished urban area, we struggle to have access to resources needed to provide a quality twenty-first century education. My goal is to provide an equitable education for each student in our classroom.

I teach eager and enthusiastic students who need these resources to reach their full potential.

My Project

The great thing about poetry is that we are able to discover ourselves and understand others. Poetry has significance in classroom. It motivates children to read with building on phonics and other essential skills in English Language Arts. But, could you imagine reading poetry books to students that spark self-discovery and developing a respect and appreciation for others? It creates unity in the classroom.

Reading and writing poetry is a great way for students to express themselves.

The overall goal of this project is for the books to do the following:

1. Used to celebrate and teach writing poetry throughout the school year.

2. Motivate children to read and express themselves.

3. Diverse poetry books will allow for great classroom conversations and teachable moments that will result in developing a respect and appreciation for others.
