This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are participating in the Students Rebuild 2024 Extraordinary Earth Project. It's an opportunity to learn about our environment and be thoughtful about how our actions affect both the ecosystems in our backyard and the planet.

When students work for something bigger than themselves and to help others, everyone thrives.

All year my students have been creating art to turn into art activism! For every piece of art we submit to Students Rebuild before June 2024, the Bezos Family Foundation will donate to organizations tackling environmental issues and the global climate crisis. So far, my students' artwork has raised $6,735. My students’ artwork is a perfect example of the kindness ripple effect extending outward and beyond our classroom community to communities worldwide.

As the Extraordinary Earth project comes to a close, I want to celebrate my students' participation by having them make macrame plant holders and giving them a small houseplant to care for. The macrame holder will perfectly nestle their plant.

Additionally, the macrame plant hanger project will benefit my students' social-emotional well-being. Tying knots with macrame cord keeps students focused, develops patience, and is soothing. This makes everyone happy! Caring for a houseplant teaches responsibility and nurtures a love for nature.

We're ready to use our voice, compassion, and creativity to protect our planet! Thank you for supporting my fourth-grade art activists.
