Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Being culturally relevant is very important in today's classroom. I want every child's voice to be heard and what a better way than to celebrate traditions that they value.
Lunar New Year is celebrated in our community and I want to incorporate it in the classroom.
We would like to read books on Lunar New Year that can give students a better understanding of this event. I also want them to know that this holiday is celebrated across several countries in Southeast Asia. The books requested will teach my students how the Koreans and Vietnamese people celebrate this holiday. The red envelopes I requested will hold the gold coins that I will give out to the students. The color red symbolizes energy, happiness, and good luck in Chinese cultures. Traditional red envelopes are often decorated with beautiful calligraphy and symbols.
Last, we would like to decorate the school with beautiful paper lanterns and banners. Students can take pictures next to the banners which say Happy New Year in Chinese.
