Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are amazing. They come to school prepared to learn and try their best to achieve our high expectations every day.
Our school is located in a low-income area with most students receiving free or reduced-price lunches.
Most of my students have limited resources outside of school, so our school may provide their only chance to experience enriching activities.
My goal every year is to create an environment that is warm, safe, and welcoming while maintaining a fun, creative learning atmosphere.
My Project
Each year we pick an influential person who has affected people's lives and create a LEGO mural to celebrate their contributions to society. This year we would to create a LEGO mural of Lin-Manuel Miranda. He has shown my students that greatness can come from anywhere.
This project will require patience, collaborative strategies, counting, reading a grid, accuracy, and some problem-solving when LEGO pieces/sizes become scarce.
For this project we need lots of LEGO bricks and base plates. We will use math and counting strategies to fill in the LEGO plates to reveal the design little by little. We will discuss Lin-Manuel Miranda's work-ethic and what it took for him to achieve greatness. Miranda once said, “I am the one thing in life I can control. I am inimitable. I am an original” I hope with the use of these supplies I will instill this work ethic in my students.
