This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My third graders enjoy learning and love coming to school. School for them is a safe space where learning is limitless. They love reading books independently, and they love listening to our class read alouds. 100% of the students receive free breakfast and lunch as our students come from low-income households. Despite their challenging backgrounds, my students thrive when they are given helpful tools and consistent learning experiences.

It is important to foster empathy, respect, and self-esteem by reading books that spotlight the diversity, histories, cultures, and experiences among those who identify as Latine, Latino, Latina, and/or Hispanic.

In a world rich in cultures and experiences, it is imperative that my students have access to books to that serve as both windows and mirrors. The young readers in my third grade class will be able to see themselves in the books that they read, allowing them to make relevant connections. In addition, students will be able to read books that highlight experiences that differ from their own, helping students develop greater empathy and respect for others. Each book in this project will serve as a learning tool to help my students grow as readers, individuals, and citizens!
