This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
What a ride it's been in our freshman English class this year! With the help of our district literacy program, MyAccess and students' hard work, we've seen some serious growth happen with their writing skills. From hesitant beginnings to confident expressions, it's been a journey full of growth and inspiration.
At the start, a bunch of our students were struggling with writing—like getting their content, focus, and organization down pat; but we weren't about to let that stop us.
Nope, we dove in headfirst, armed with dedication and some seriously focused teaching and collaborative learning.
And guess what? We're crushing it! By April 2024, our class average shot up from a meh 1.9 to a stellar 3.6. Yeah, you heard that right—major progress! But it's not just about the numbers - It's about our students finding their voices, feeling confident in their skills, and owning their writing like bosses.
The excitement in the classroom is through the roof. We've got kids tracking their own progress, high-fiving each other, and just straight-up beaming with pride. And let me tell you about this one moment that had us all cheering—a quiet, reserved student who'd been putting in the work scored a perfect 4.0. You should've seen her face—it was lit up like a Christmas tree!
My plan is to celebrate these rockstars in style: a party filled with laughter, friendship, and—you guessed it—lots of yummy treats (ice cream, chips, drinks, and other sweet treats). It's not just about the sweets (although they're a big part of it); it's about recognizing all the hard work, growth, and awesomeness that our students have achieved.
