Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students are all diverse learners. Students here are not only diverse academically, but economically, and culturally as well.
When creating projects, such as self-portraits, it is important that we have the materials to do so.
In the past, teachers would hand out plain white paper and have students draw their self-portraits. Students would have to color the whole page to make it look like them. Since we all come in different colors, we should have different colored paper! With these materials, students can now choose a color that matches their skin tone.
Also in this project are different mats with faces. Students are asked to read the feeling word and create a face using play-doh to demonstrate how the face changes through feelings. After 2 years of wearing masks, it is so important that students recognize facial expressions.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
