Celebrating Día de los Muertos: A Colorful Cultural Learning Experience!

Help me give my students decorations and supplies to help us learn about and celebrate Día de los Muertos, a vibrant Mexican tradition honoring loved ones who have passed.

My Project

This project is designed to bring the cultural celebration of Día de los Muertos into our classroom through meaningful, hands-on learning. My second-grade students are a bright and inquisitive group who love learning about different cultures and traditions. Día de los Muertos is a vibrant Mexican tradition that honors and remembers loved ones who have passed away. It offers a valuable opportunity to explore themes of family, memory, art, and cultural heritage.

With your support, our classroom will be transformed into a colorful learning space decorated with papel picado banners, tissue paper marigolds, calavera (skull) art, and a class altar.

These materials will be used not only for decoration but also to support cross-curricular learning in social studies, reading, writing, and art. Students will learn about the history and symbols of the holiday, engage with culturally relevant texts, and create projects that deepen their understanding and appreciation of this tradition.

This experience will promote cultural awareness and inclusivity by introducing students to a celebration that may be new to some and familiar to others. By engaging with these materials, students will develop respect for diverse traditions while strengthening their skills in observation, communication, and creativity.
