Celebrating Culture Through Music

Help me give my students the instruments they need to perform their World Music performance, "Music the Universal Language".

My Students

The students, teachers, parents and community of Ridge View Elementary are dedicated to building a unified school culture that develops our students as a whole.

I believe that music can be a powerful tool directly impacting positive school culture.

As the music teacher, I have the privilege of every student in the school being a part of my class. Music is something we learn and experience as an entire school, together. COVID-19 has created a life of isolation for many of my students. This past year and a half, students have been moved back and forth between in school and online learning and quarantine. This has impacted the music classroom on a personal level causing all group rehearsals and LIVE performances to be canceled. The disappointment has been felt across our school culture that we have been unable to celebrate music as a Ridge View community throughout this Pandemic.

My Project

Each of these resources will be used to enhance our live performance this year "Music - the Universal Language". We have been studying music from around the globe. We have also been exploring the culture of each of the Ridge View students through a Family Folk Song Project where each student shares their culture with the class through a family folk song.

We will use the triangles, rhythm sticks, maracas, glockenspiels and finger cymbals to add to our music's ostinatos. The velcro color dots will be used to mark each student's spot on the stage for the performance.

Through this performance, we will be able to joyfully make music together, celebrating with our school, friends and community!
