My students are wonderful, caring, strong leaders. All students at my school receive free breakfast and lunch. Some are first generation to attend high school and many are hoping to be the first to attend and graduate from college. Many students are English Language Learners with an even more diverse number of languages spoken at home.
I teach in an urban, magnet, Title I school with a diverse cultural population.
We are a fortunate school to have such a diverse student population with students coming to our urban from surrounding towns and with various socioeconomic, ethnic and racial backgrounds. At our school we work a lot on positive thinking and despite life's challenges, my students exhibit a pride and passion for achievement. They are an enthusiastic and resilient bunch who are hardworking, curious and have a lot of school spirit. My students are willing to give their all to make the school a better place!
Graduation is fast approaching and my seniors are making decisions about post secondary education and careers. Annually our seniors are provided with a graduation night event organized by parents and supported by the school in hopes of providing a safe (drug and alcohol free), fun-filled night to celebrate the diligent work and scholastic success. As I mentioned our student body is diverse in many ways including geographically.
The Graduation Night Celebration is important for our students because it will be one of the last nights students will be able to relax & have fun with each other before going to college, workforce, or military.
The safe graduation night celebration will surely provide a memorable and carefree evening free from any pressure to drink or do drugs. We hope to be able to extend every student the opportunity to attend by providing the event to all students free of charge.
