Celebrate Differences Through Books: Out Of My Mind
Help me give my students books! Having multiple copies of a book for students is difficult to get as a teacher yet necessary for engaged readers.

My Project
I am always looking for new additions to my yearly read alouds with my fifth graders that touch upon topics that are relatable and spark discussions. Currently, I only have 3 copies of this book and additional copies will allow me to have every student in my class be able to hold a book and follow along as I model good fluency skills. This book will spark conversations around differences that people have and how being different isn't always a bad thing; with perseverance and grit. anyone can accomplish anything!
So far this year, all of the read alouds that we have done together have themes of differences, perseverance, friendship and teamwork and this book adds to these themes.
When I have done read alouds without a copy for every student, or at the bare minimum one per every two students, my students aren't always invested in the storyline. Having access to a book will allow my students to stay engaged while I read, which in turn will help their overall reading abilities.
