Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
As a first grade public school teacher in a low income/high need community, I try to expose my first grade students to all facets of learning in order to help them meet their potential and enjoy their learning experience.
I have a group of ambitious and eager public school students, who love to read and write.
They are beginning to put together sounds, identify word families, distinguish between long and short vowel words, and write their own stories during writing workshop, word study, and reading workshop.
My Project
I am requesting a new cd player/boombox. My old cd player/boombox broke at the beginning of the year. I use the cd player to play music that accompanies various word study poems during shared reading and classical music during writing workshop. I also play math oriented songs (like the doubles addition song) as a warm up before math workshop. The music helps to reinforce the skills that my students are learning in class, as well as help them concentrate on their stories during writing workshop. The music can also help my students, who learn best through auditory means. By hearing the word study songs, my students will be able to improve their reading skills, word study skills, and even their writing skills and become better readers and writers. By hearing the math songs, my students will be able to improve some of their math skills.
With you help, you will make it possible for my students to improve their reading skills, word study skills, and math skills by enabling them to reinforce lessons learned in class through various words study songs and math related songs.
