This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have taught in the same building for 27 years For most of that time, I worked in the gym teaching movement. Two years ago a new principal came and decided that I should have my own room in which to teach dance. I now work in an empty classroom that we have made into a "dance studio".
I had a CD player last year that was perfect until someone stepped on it. So I have been borrowing the old CD player from the gym. The gym teacher wants it back, however, to use with his parachute unit. I would love to replace the broken boom box with the same thing.
My dance program consists of lessons in Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Square and Folk Dancing, depending on the grade. The CD player will be in use every period of the day in classes ranging from K through 5th grade.
I am in the process now of preparing some of my first and second graders for a holiday performance of our version of "The Nutcracker.? Other students in the third grade are rehearsing their dance routines so that they can be the entertainment at our holiday feast. Each year the school honors our local firefighters and police officers with a feast for Thanksgiving. My students will be performing a review of songs from "Oliver," "Annie," and "The Me Nobody Knows" for our guests. My fourth and fifth graders work all year to put on a full length show. They "major" in theater. This year they will be putting on "Suessical The Musical Jr." in May.
As you can see, my boom box gets plenty of use. If you could help by replacing the one that broke, it would be so much appreciated.
If music is the soul, dance makes that soul visible to any who wish to watch. Thank you.
