My Students

The ability to shape and guide my student and give them as many hands-on opportunities as possible gives me the motivation to share with you why my students are special. We have an interesting demographic of extremely wealthy and very poor. With this huge gap, many of my students will never have the opportunity to experience the same things as wealthy students. I want my disadvantaged students to get a leg up and experience what the world has to offer and prepare to get into a college.

My Project

Utah State Standards give us the opportunity to create cross-curriculum projects for our College and Career Awareness classes in middle school. The goal is to teach the students to use drones in applications other than for play. This can include Arts, Communication, Marketing, and more. Technology in agriculture is a new arena and drones are becoming more valuable for farmers and ranchers as they don't have to drive or ride a horse out to see if there is a problem. They can program a drone with a specific flight path and task list to monitor their property.

These are the standards required by the state of Utah:

Strand 1 Standard 3

Explore the current Utah career clusters and pathways associated with each cluster and analyze the overlapping academic content and skills.

Agriculture, Food & Natural Resources

Arts, Audio/Visual Technology & Communication

Engineering & Technology

Strand 2

Students will develop, practice, and demonstrate academic content and workplace skills within the current career clusters.

Standard 3

Explore different methods of communication.

Standard 4

Apply critical thinking and problem-solving techniques.

1. Practice critical thinking skills (e.g., consider multiple points of view that lead to a solution to a problem).

2. Discern between relevant and credible sources.

3. Utilize a problem-solving model (e.g., engineering design process, decision matrix, pros and cons, Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve and Control (DMAIC), etc.).

4. Design unique solutions to problems.

Standard 5

Identify and demonstrate effective collaboration and teamwork skills.

1. Investigate and practice different roles within a team.

2. Discuss the positives and negatives of working in a team.

3. Demonstrate collaboration skills. (e.g., brainstorming, listening, constructive feedback, etc.).

Strand 4 Standard 1

Students will participate in multiple College and Career Awareness opportunities to develop a plan of study which aligns with personal education and career interests.
