My students need hands-on science materials! Our classroom needs books to learn more about insects, life cycle kits to hold and understand, and caterpillars to experience the magical change!

My Students
My 1st graders live in NYC and come from a variety of backgrounds. I have students with many different economic backgrounds and we all come together as one in our classroom. My 1st-grade classroom is a place where students are equals and respected. Our school provides many opportunities for students to thrive in arts, physical education, and academics.
My students need more opportunities for hands-on learning in science.
This project will provide science and technology resources for my classroom and other 1st grade classrooms at my school.
My Project
My 1st graders have been studying many different animal groups in science. As city kids they see many animals at the zoo but haven't seen all of these animal groups in real life. This project will allow three first grade classrooms to watch caterpillars turn into butterflies in their classroom! I have also requested extra vouchers so that we can use the supplies again next year. The life cycle kits will help us learn about some of the animal groups that we cannot have in our classroom. The journals will be used to document the caterpillars as they change and turn into butterflies!
