Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

In culinary, students are tasked with running a business. Our business is catering. We offer monthly teacher lunches, as well as catering a variety of different banquets. The use of the cart, oven mitts, and stickers all allow us to be better prepared to serve our staff. Running a student business shows the students a variety of different skills, from cost analysis, to inventory, to customer service.

Our SBE (student business) will show skills like cost analysis, recipe design, recipe presentation, and more.

Through the SBE, students learn skills that will help them to get hired on at an entry level position within the culinary industry.

Last year, a pizza oven was donated to us. This pizza oven has been remarkable. However, we have to set it up on a chair outside to be able to run it with propane. The cart will be utilized with our new pizza oven so that we can wheel the cart around campus when we need it. This will allow us to use the pizza oven for multiple events all around campus. These events are how we make our money for new equipment, food, and field trips.

The hot mitts are to ensure that we are being safe and not burning ourselves. The oven gets to 500 degrees and the hot mitts are to protect my students when working with the pizza oven, or the regular oven.

The stickers are for us to make our Central Bobcat Catering Stickers that are placed on each teacher lunch box to help us know where the food is going. Being able to print out the stickers with our orders on them helps us to make sure the lunches get where they belong.
