My Students
In any given year, over 100 9th grade students walk through my doorway seeking acceptance and opportunities to grow. These students enter with diverse personal backgrounds and academic strengths, and I strive to help them grow and flourish as students and individuals.
On any given day, students walk through my door seeking advice, comfort, direction, support, compassion, inspiration, and so much more.
Coming from many different walks of life and academic experiences and hold numerous opinions different from those around them, these students have a bright future ahead of them.
My Project
My students are face-to-face at this moment. This could change at any time. However, we have been given the green light to begin sharing books with our students again, and I desperately need to continue updating my classroom library! So many wonderful books have been published or brought to my attention in the past few months, and I want to share them with my students! Our classroom library isn't intended as a primary classroom resource. It's intended as conversation starters, reflection opportunities, creative inspirations, and eye-opening experiences. It's recently come to my attention that some of my books are missing or series have continued and I didn't realize it. I need to fix this problem to help recapture the attention of some of my less interested readers.
Recently, Angie Thomas shared she was an "unimpressed" reader as a teen because the books shared with her by teachers and librarians just weren't interesting to her; I want IMPRESSED readers in my classroom!
They aren't reluctant; they are unimpressed. I believe these books will impress them. These books are filled with adventure, heartbreak, laughter, self-discovery, friendship, struggles, triumphs, and more. These books reflect the faces, bodies, lives, personalities, and experiences of students in my classroom but not necessarily found on my bookshelf. I want my students to be able to reach into these books and feel alongside these characters and realize each of their own stories and voices matter. Please help me share these wonderful texts with my sweet students.
