Catching up on Phonics!

Help me give my students the phonics hands-on activities they've missed being fully remote.

My Students

My students come from low-income households where English is their second language. They are of different cultures and ethnicities. These are kindergarteners in a general education class that includes English Language Learners and students with special needs. They were in pre-school last year for only six months until COVID hit.

They have missed out on a lot of learning, not being able to attend class remotely.

They had a tough time learning remotely at such a young age. It has been a very tough year for everyone.

My Project

Since the students have been fully remote since September, they have not been getting the hands-on practice to learn sight words and word families. This has hindered their reading skills and they have fallen further behind. Now that they have switched to in person, these activities will promote reading for our precious students, especially those who are tactile learners. These activities will give them hands-on, center-time activities to learn and practice in a fun way. Students will be excited to be using these new activities. These activities can then be used by the incoming pre-k in September.
