Castle Construction with Disney Characters 3

My Project

I am always looking for new ways to encourage, excite and engage students in engineering challenges during our weekly STEAM lessons. It is important to make meaningful connections with students interests, connect that to STEAM learning and then provide students with a fun, engaging activity related to STEAM concepts and processes.

My newest idea is having students follow the Engineer Design Process for Castle Construction with Disney Characters!

Students will first make connections about castles they've seen and be shown some of the most well-known castles in Disney movies, such as Cinderella's castle and the castles form Frozen. Then students will learn about castle architecture and famous castles from around the world. Lastly, students will use the Enigeering Design Process to engineer a castle for their Disney character provided through this project. The wooden castle building blocks provided through this project are important for the Engineer Design Process because it will ensure students have developmentally appropriate materials to engineer with and successfully complete the challenge. I think students will love engineering their castles using these materials and testing out their castles with characters provided through another project.

I am really excited to provide students with this new STEAM opporunity. I think they will love the Disney characters, connection and engineering their own castles!
