My Students
Ours is a charter school on the border of Darlington and Florence counties that began for the 2017-2018 school year. In addition to academics, there is a focus on community and student accountability. In keeping with the charter school model, Virtus believes that "students should be engaged in authentic, hands-on experiences through project-based learning to foster academic growth and success."
Establishing a caring culture where students and staff decide together what expectations for behavior look like helps create that community, therefore, making it the perfect environment for learning and growth.

At present, our school houses grades K-8th grade, with the intent to add another grade each year they are in existence. The class sizes vary with a maximum of 23 per class. There are two Fifth grade classes and two Sixth grade classes, each with 23 students, to be serviced by this grant. The 2020-2021 enrollment was around 530 students.
My Project
Fifth and Sixth Grade students will be able to earn "character cash" by showing the character that goes above and beyond. Students will use this "cash" in the class store. This grant will provide the incentives and rewards that students can purchase in the class store!
Just like we as adults "work" for pay or some other incentive like time off, the idea here is that students will work to earn character cash to spend in the classroom store.
This grant will allow a fully stocked store for students to shop in.
While some students might choose to save up their cash and buy a more expensive item, others might want instant gratification and decide on a smaller item. This project will allow them to pick candy, headphones, stickers, or even a book. Not only will this encourage good behavior but it will teach about life skills including saving and earning.
