This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My school is a small public Charter School that borders four larger public school districts. Our students are mainly inner city kids from low income areas of the city. The rest of the students come from areas just outside of the city that are also low income.
As my music program grows, the need for music stands also grows.
My students need to experience reading music off a music stand rather than trying to read music off a desk as they play.
My Project
Having enough music stands for two students to a stand instead of cramming three to four students to a stand makes things a lot more comfortable for students. Now that I have 3rd and 4th grades playing recorders, 5th and 6th grades playing ukuleles, a steel drum group, having music stands will give them a place to put their music instead of on a desk or chair. This will cause my rehearsals to be less chaotic and easier to manage.
Having the music stands will bring the class together more as a performing group helping them to focus on the music rather where to put their music.
As a beginner or second year student on an instrument, having a good place to put your music gives them one less thing to worry about.
