This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you remember what it was like to have to sit on the carpet for lessons in class? My students spend a together a on the floor throughout the day.

My students are eager to fill their young minds with knowledge.

In our school 89% of students receive free or reduced lunch, and we have a high population of ELL students. With students living in a low-income area, it is difficult for many of them to come up with the materials needed on their own.

My Project

My students will use the donated carpet everyday. We come together on the floor several times throughout the day. When we are together on the floor we do our read aloud, calendar time, science/social studies lessons, grammar lessons, and our community circle. So we spend a majority of the time on the floor.

The donation to get a new carpet will be great in class.

The students are currently using an old carpet that was previously in the room when I started. It is not large enough to fit all my students, and it doesn't give them their own space. The new carpet, that I have chosen, is large enough to fit my whole class, and it gives everyone a space of their own. When everyone has a space of their own it provides a better learning environment for all those in the room.
