My Students
I am the proud teacher of 41 second and third graders this year at a Title One elementary school in Washington, D.C. Although considered a low income school, the students I teach are high-achievers. They are participants in a dual language program in which they are learning to become fluent English and Spanish speakers.
Several years ago I redesgined my classroom to give students various comfortable seating options, however, our carpet area remains one of the most popular choices amongst my students.
We use our carpet throughout the day for morning meeting, whole group instruction, and most recently, mindful meditation.
My Project
My students absolutely LOVE to sit and lay on the carpet in our classroom however, we are outgrowing our current carpet and it is becoming quite worn.
I would love to have a new, larger carpet for our classroom that would allow students to be seated comfortably.
When I originally redesigned my classroom with alternative seating options it was so that students would have choice and voice in how they work best. My students have shown me that they are most comfortable when they are curled up with a book, completing their assignments or doing meditation on the carpet. Please help us to get a new carpet for our classroom.
