Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Our first graders love to join one another on the class carpet for learning time. Here, we host community circles, engage in phonics and writing, perform for our classmates, and simply enjoy story time.
Unfortunately, our current rug is too small for everyone to gather.
We cannot currently sit in a circle without having most students sit outside the rug, on the tile floor. When we are sitting in rows, students are cramped, or sitting beside the carpet rather than on it. We want to make sure all of our students have a comfortable space for them to do their best learning alongside their peers. The carpet we would like to have is not only large enough for all, but it also gives students a visual aid ("squares") to help them respect one another's personal space.
