This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are at a high poverty school and have not had a great history with art. This is my first year with them and I want to give them a rich experience when they are with me.
As part of their "art experience" I would like to be able to have a place where they can sit on the floor to listen to read alouds and have art critiques.
I am hoping to get a rug where we can gather together.
My Project
These carpet squares are bright and cheery, featuring bright colors and letters of the alphabet.
With these carpet squares, students will have the option of sitting comfortably on the floor for various kinds of instruction like critiquing art, read-alouds or class discussions.
The advantage these squares have over a carpet is that we are in an art classroom and we will be able to move these out of the way when we're done. It will help keep them clean and we can have them in different parts of the classroom without difficulty. These carpet squares will also work for small group work.
