My Students
Flashback to third grade and think about your classroom environment. Was it colorful and comfortable? Or was it like mine, bland, boring, and uninviting. In my classroom today, I try to make the environment an inviting and comfy place that students want to come to everyday, ready to learn.
Although considered a low income school, we are by no means low achieving.
The third graders that I teach are a group of highly-motivated students who participate in a dual program which is preparing them to become fluent Spanish speakers. They work very hard to learn all of their subjects in both languages.
My Project
I would like to enhance my learning environment with a colorful United States carpet. This carpet would serve several purposes. Students would not only sit on it daily for whole group instruction and story time but they would be able to use it to learn the 50 states. What a fun, hands-on way to be able to learn the state locations!
We have a carpet in our classroom now but it is so worn that I feel guilty having my students sit on it everyday. It's all that we have so we will continue to use it until we can do better but we sure could use a clean, new one.
Getting a new carpet would not only brighten our classroom, it would brighten my students' day.
They love to sit on the floor in our classroom, huddling together to play games with their friends, studying on the carpet or just curling up with a good book. Won't you help brighten a third grader's day?
