This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The carpets are the meeting point of my students. Not only do they enjoy lying down to read, dance, or build with blocks in it, but they also represent a safe place where they learn and play.

Our class has had the same two carpets since 2003 and they are so old that it is impossible to vacuum them.

Unfortunately, I have not been able to throw them away for the safety of my students; for safety reasons they cannot play with wooden blocks on the floor, or dance on the floor, or lie down to read on the floor. Our carpet is quite old and leaves powdery residue on our floor. Due to our classroom being a frequently flooded zone, the carpet has developed mold in some areas. It is in no condition to sit students down and have large or small groups.

My amazing students deserve to sit on new, clean, non-itchy and allergy-free rugs. This is essential for my young students to be focused on reading, building, and carrying out activities with music and movement. Please help make this year a memorable year for them with a brand-new carpet they can learn, play, and sit on.
