Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Most of my students come from families that battle with the struggles of poverty, trauma, living in the shelter system or projects. My students are predominantly hispanic or black. In addition to their personal struggles outside of school, each of my students has a learning disability and has had many failures in their short educational careers before entering my classroom.
In a diverse community, resources are often limited and teachers must dip in their own pockets to ensure students receive a high quality education they are entitled too.
The vast majority of students in the school qualify for free and reduced lunch.
This year, one of my goals is to construct an organized classroom that builds student autonomy and independence. Having flexible seating and clear organizational systems is one way to meet this goal.
My Project
Some Covid restrictions are being lifted and we can once again have carpets in our room! The carpets that we once had were stored in the basement and not in the best of shape. Help us make the classroom attractive and appealing for our students by providing a carpet for our flexible seating table. Nothing worse than having to sit on a cold floor!
When students are given autonomy and flexibility in seating options they are more engaged and less fidgety!
Help make this a reality in our classroom. In addition, I am requesting materials to help us stay organized. I want to be able to display our mentor texts for students to access. Building student independence is vital and a goal for my students this year!
