Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

I have a class of 17 low-income kids from ages 2-4, they are enthusiastic and eager to learn about everything in their paths. They are adventurous and are always asking questions, their favorite question is "what is this?". We are currently learning the alphabet and colors in class. Whenever we are having breakfast and lunch, or the kids are being introduced to something new, they are encouraged to ask questions about what they are experiencing. We have a board full of new words that we go over each day, and we always mention the color of the item.

My Project

Having a carpet with color names, numbers and the alphabet in both English and Spanish is going to be extremely valuable. This carpet will be a great away to introduce both English and Spanish to the kids in a fun vibrant and creative way.

Some of the kids in the class are being introduced to the English language for the first time, having these visuals will really help them.

This carpet will be a great way to help them retain that knowledge. They are on the carpet at least one hour out of the day, for the morning meeting, transitions, and circle time, so the exposure will be consistent. I also plan on doing small group activities base on numbers, colors, and letters on the carpet.
