My Students

My students are PASSIONATE about learning! They have beautiful and creative minds; they need a little help bringing it out. I want to have an accurate temperature measurement so that my students can stay in school and learn.

My students are full of life and energy and are always excited to learn.

They come from a disadvantaged school on the Windward side of Oahu. Our school is located in a predominately rural, low-income neighborhood with many Hawaiian and Micronesian ancestry children. I have very diverse students with different cultural, socioeconomic, and educational backgrounds. They are motivated young students who struggle with learning due to the lack of accessible tools.

My Project

Assessing students' temperatures will help us determine who needs to go home and who can stay. Especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, we have had to rely on forehead thermometers because oral was considered a contaminated source.

We have found through research that ear thermometers are more accurate.

This helps us determine who is running fevers and needs to be sent home versus who is ok to return to class. I currently have a Braun Thermoscan Ear Thermometer, although no charging station.
