I work with a diverse group of students as a psychologist, ranging from kindergarten, to students in our support classrooms. Many of them come to my office to learn skills, but also to have a place to calm down and feel safe. To learn and practice these skills, we use a variety of materials and resources.
In our school we embrace inclusion and the more skills I can support and teach the better!
These skills will help our students become successful in school and in life.
My Project
Providing students new and creative ways to explore emotion regulation, anger management and coping skills can help create a safe and sound school solution. Each student deserves to feel cared for and safe while being provided essential skills to be successful in life.
As the school psychologist in our school, I focus on teaching a variety of skills to a diverse population of students.
These skills can include social skills, anger management, frustration tolerance, and coping skills. Additionally, some of students require more support regarding life and adaptive skills in hopes of them leading an independent life. When we teach these skills to our students, there is a better chance that they embrace self determination.
I have found that when you teach lessons such as these, it helps to have a few good tricks up your sleeve. The more fun and engaging I make the lesson, the more they learn. Using different strategies such as art, games, and toys can help reach more students at every level of social emotional learning. Which is why I chose a variety of materials to keep students engaged and learning.
