Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Approximately 40% of our student population are eligible for free and/or reduced lunch which means that many of our families benefit from additional support to ensure that their children's basic needs are met. As we all know, students are not able to consistently engage in their learning if they are hungry or worried about when/where their next meal is coming. On a daily basis I am usually asked by at least 25 students if I have any food and am weekly asked about feminine products. I try to have these things in my care closet, but these are items I need to purchase, and they are expensive and I do not always have the ability to maintain a stocked closet over the school year.

By funding this project, you are helping me to say yes to every student when they ask for something they need.

You are also helping me create a safe space where students have access to therapeutic activities so they can further develop their social and emotional skills.

Our students are amazing! They show up, seek connection, and take pride when they find success. For some, success could mean being at school, being on time to their class, taking a risk in the classroom by asking or answering a question, speaking to a classmate in English or Spanish, or even attempting to do their in class work. They deserve the best from the adults in our building and what opportunities we can provide. With additional support from others we can provide even more opportunities for them.
