This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The Care Cart in my classroom is the spot where students can get personal hygiene and care products. Do you know how many times a day kids ask me for bandaids or lotion? If I didn't keep these items stocked, students would wander the building looking for what they need. Students can't learn if they are concerned about their hair, or their dry skin, or if they will get blood on their pants.

This Care cart is specifically set up so that if students need any personal care products, they can pick some up without even talking to the teacher, interrupting the class, while still maintaining their privacy.

I want to be able to give students the products they need IN the classroom so that they don't have to wander the school building in search of a pad when they're menstruating or lotion when they are itchy with an allergic reaction. I let students know that lotion, band-aids, pads, tampons, deodorant, or any other personal hygiene product is available in the classroom at their fingertips.

This CARE cart refill is especially important when a student is housing insecure and may not have access to daily showering when staying at someone else's house. I don't want a student to have to share with me that they need deodorant if they don't want to share their life circumstances; this is important to autonomy and self-esteem to be able to keep your private life yours. Thank you for contributing to my students' essential needs!
