it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I am continually inspired by my students’ resilience, creativity, and unique perspectives. Many of my students are immigrants who bring a rich tapestry of cultures and life experiences into the classroom. Their stories, traditions, and dreams are at the heart of our art projects, making our learning environment vibrant and deeply meaningful.
This project—creating 3-D sculptures of favorite memories out of cardboard—will give my students the tools to express themselves in a way that transcends language barriers.
The resources I’m requesting, such as cardboard sheets, glue, craft knives, paint, and other embellishments, will enable them to explore new techniques in sculpture and develop their problem-solving and design skills. These materials will provide a hands-on learning experience that fosters creativity and builds confidence in their ability to transform ideas into tangible art.
The goals for this project are to encourage self-expression, build a sense of pride in their personal stories, and develop critical thinking skills as they plan and construct their sculptures. By reflecting on and recreating a meaningful memory, students will also practice storytelling and cultural exchange, deepening their connections with their peers and their community.
What makes my students special is their remarkable ability to adapt and thrive in new environments. Despite the challenges they face, they approach learning with curiosity and determination. Through art, they have a chance to celebrate their identities, share their journeys, and create something uniquely their own. This project will give them the platform to tell their stories in a way that celebrates their individuality and their shared experiences.
