My Students

Distance learning has been a challenge for our students, parents, and teachers as well. The challenges we all face vary in nature, but currently, it is undoubtedly an economic challenge for us all. Our school is a Title I school where 100% of our students receive free breakfast, lunch and supper.

My young scholars came back this school year feeling worried, but excited and ready to persevere, despite the obvious circumstances due to the Covid 19 pandemic.

My kids come to class every day eager to learn. Before starting our instructional day, we take a few minutes to discuss what is going on in their life, around their neighborhood, our state and/or country.

My Project

For the last few years my students and those in grades 3-5 SDC get together to learn about simple machines, motion, and energy. Our culminating activity is for our kids to create and construct a cardboard arcade game that incorporates three or more simple machines while taking into consideration what they learned about motion and energy. We usually borrow cutting and glueing tools so that we can cut our students' cardboard. We have to be very careful so as to not cut down into the surface of the lunch tables. It is always with great caution that we do the cutting, but we feel that having rotary cutting mats will help us protect the lunch tables from getting ruined. We are asking for both manual and electric hand-held cardboard scissors to cut different width cardboards. The hot glue guns will help us glue together our students' cardboard pieces so their cardboard arcade game can start taking shape. The heavy duty gloves will help protect us from cuts or burns. The tool bags will be used to store all the tools and/or materials we will use for our engineering projects. We asked for an extension cord with a surge protector so that we can have multiple items plugged in at one cutting and gluing station.

My students are creative and imaginative, so having these items will make it possible for my students to become engineers in our classrooms that hopefully transfers over to their adult lives.

One way to inspire our kids to become engineers is to provide them with multiple engineering opportunities. We call our kids "engineers" because we want them to know they are engineers when working on their challenges. These items will allow it all.
