This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Using one’s imagination is something that needs to be nurtured and developed. My 2nd grade students will have so much fun using the ChompChompSaw to create with cardboard. They are such a wonderful group—kind, curious, and eager to find their voice and express their visions. I want to nurture that spark.
Your help will allow my students to imagine, design, and create with cardboard.
The first project we’ll do once this project is funded is to design and build a creature. Students will imagine it, sketch it, draw and color it onto cardboard, then use the safe cutting tools to bring their creatures to life. We’ll proudly display them in our classroom.
Next, we’ll dive into problem-solving by building a three-dimensional object that serves a purpose. For example, I’ll set up a river with a toy elephant on one side and challenge students to invent something to help the elephant get across.
These first two projects are just the beginning of a year full of designing, building, and engineering. Once we’ve built our skills, we’ll invite a 5th-grade class to join us. We hope the creativity and collaboration become contagious!
