My Project
Middle school is a critical time for social and emotional development, and one of the most effective ways to support that growth is through structured opportunities for play. This project will provide every advisory classroom in our school with a set of engaging, age-appropriate card games for use during the next school year.
These games are more than just a fun break from academics—they’re powerful tools that help students build relationships, solve problems, and work collaboratively.
During advisory time, students often have the opportunity to interact in smaller, more relaxed group settings, but many of our classrooms currently lack the resources to make that time truly meaningful. Card games offer a simple, low-tech way to create shared experiences where students can laugh, connect, and challenge each other in positive ways.
By ensuring that each classroom is equipped with these resources, we can make play an intentional, equitable part of the school day for all students. This is especially important in middle school, where peer relationships and a sense of belonging play such a large role in overall well-being and academic motivation. Giving students time and tools to connect in ways that don’t involve screens, grades, or performance pressures helps support a healthier, more connected school culture.
