Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

At our school on the East Side of San Jose, our yearbook staff comprises talented and passionate students from diverse, often marginalized backgrounds. As a Title I school, we serve a student body that faces significant social and economic challenges, yet possesses a profound capacity for creativity and expression. Our students are eager to use multimedia not just to capture moments, but to inspire change and dialogue within our school and the broader community.

This year, our yearbook team is enthusiastic about taking their skills to the next level by upgrading our existing equipment to the Sony a6400 mirrorless camera.

This upgrade is crucial as our students lead projects that raise awareness about mental health, celebrate cultural histories during Black History Month and AAPI Month, address stress during Stress Awareness Month, and honor diversity during Pride Month.

Why the Sony a6400?

Superior Image and Sound Quality: Ensures that every project, whether photo or video, meets professional standards, necessary for effective storytelling and advocacy.

Reliability: With its robust build and longevity, students can rely on the camera to perform in various settings and conditions, crucial for documenting important school events and community issues.

Enhanced Features: Features like fast autofocus and continuous shooting are perfect for capturing dynamic school events and sensitive topics that require a delicate and accurate portrayal.

Impact on Students and Community

By providing our students with access to the Sony a6400, we not only enhance their technical skills but also empower them to use their art to address and illuminate issues of social and racial injustice. The projects they create will foster awareness, encourage empathy, and promote dialogue, contributing to a more informed and compassionate school environment.
