Capturing the Reader's Heart, One Token at a Time!

Help me give my students a vending machine that dispenses books for an incentive program that fosters social-emotional learning/character education and cultivates the love of reading.

My Project

What makes stories so powerful? Stories define our world and discover our place in it. Stories teach us where we came from and help us to identify the future. Stories can help us to escape, soothe us to sleep, or motivate us to take action in this world. Every child is already halfway to being a book lover. My teachers have fostered students' passions for reading by starting them in their comfort zones, surrounding them with books, reading books aloud, and modeling their own love of reading.

Findings have shown that book ownership has a strong influence on students' positive attitudes towards reading because owning their own books helps students to internalize the feeling, that I AM A READER.

With an incentive program that is unique to each grade level, our school will be able to capture the readers' hearts one token at a time. Teachers will develop this incentive program to foster social-emotional learning or character education that allows the child to be rewarded with a trip to the book vending machine.

This requested book vending machine will be filled with diverse books that will develop reading skills as well as develop good character and cultural awareness. Students will be recognized for their accomplishments along with choosing a book that will be theirs for a lifetime.
