This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students see school as a safe place and come each day ready to learn. All students at our school qualify for free or reduced price lunch. They strive to make the most of each day, despite the challenges they may be facing at home. My class loves challenging themselves to learn more, and are eager to see their growth in reading every day.

My students love coming to school each day to learn more about themselves as individuals.

They enjoy being able to show their understanding in many different ways, both on paper and though technology and love being given the chance to boost their computer literacy skills. Utilizing technology not only builds these important life skills that will help my students be successful outside of school, but also allow for differentiation that is necessary for each of them to succeed. In addition to growing more comfortable and confident with themselves as an individual, my students strive everyday to show their ability to collaborate with their peers while demonstrating skills necessary for success later in their lives.

My Project

My students LOVE telling stories. Whether it's their life's biography (so far), a fantastical adventure, or simply explaining why their science project idea is the best-- if you give them an audience they will tell it. To help with this, I utilize the digital platform Seesaw often in my class. Seesaw allows the medium to provide a safe and easy to use digital space for us to share out thoughts and ideas with peers, other teachers, and family members with the simple click of a button. Seesaw is great because it allows for pictures, words, and voice recordings which allows EVERY student the ability to access it, regardless of their current academic standings or abilities. On the proper device, Seesaw also allows students to take pictures before adding in their commentary, which opens the door for a wide range of class projects to share.

Kindle Fires will allow my students the ability to be mobile with their publishing.

A Kindle Fire is small enough that it is easy to pick up and move around the classroom. This will allow my students to take pictures of different things. Just made a really cool science project? Great, we can capture that while explaining what we learned. Came up with a new idea for the flexible seating arrangement? Capture it and pitch your idea in the form of a persuasive speech. Unlike a laptop, which only has a camera on one side, a Kindle Fire would allow my students the ability to take a picture of what they created, which brings more life to their work and a greater investment in their work.
