My students need community helpers for the block area in order to support the social studies curriculum. The upcoming unit will be on family and community helpers.

A typical day in my classroom starts with Morning Morning, which includes a greeting, share, an activity and the Morning Message. Our instruction is integrated through literacy. Students also have the daily opportunity to work in centers to support their hands-on learning.
We are a public school with an intentional mindset to learning.
We recognize the prerequisites to success include recognizing our students' learning styles, their individuality, and being able to empower them with problem-solving techniques to support their social and academic learning. The students are from a demographically blended urban setting. We have an inclusive classroom setting where students are given the opportunity to learn in a hands-on manner. Much of our curriculum leaves room for flexibility based on the students' needs.
We view our classroom as an extension of what is happening within the lives of the students. Learning is very active within the classroom, and students are expected to use hands-on materials to demonstrate their learning. As part of the process, students will be using the materials in the block area to construct 3-D models of what they noticed in their neighborhood. My students need community helpers for the block area in order to support the social studies curriculum. They will then replicate their constructions onto paper and create maps of specific lessons on economics and geography that they observed in their neighborhood.
This project will improve the classroom work both academically and socially.
Academically, the students will be able to use concrete materials in order to demonstrate their understanding of how consumers and producers work together in a community. Additionally, they will be able to show their understanding of how to construct a 3-D model of a map. Socially, students will gain techniques to how to problem solve, collaborate, and cooperatively work together.
