Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Book reports and history tests no longer have to be boring essays where students drone on for five minutes about a topic that nobody can really relate to.
There is not much that seems to excite my 6th grade students this year.
Somewhere during their past 5 or so years of schooling, they seem to have lost the love of learning that so many young children have. The school where I teach is relatively new (only four years old) so we haven't had a chance to accumulate very much extra technology beyond what a classroom requires in order to function.
My Project
I am requesting four digital cameras (along with memory cards, cases, and tripods) to assist my students in projects for Social Studies and Language Arts. I plan on teaching them how to make movie trailers as well as stop-motion videos. These two types of videos can be utilized by groups of students to re-create events in world history or to advertise a book that they read in a reading group. I expect that this technology will help my class to become more interested in the things they are learning and reading about.
In the end, I want my students to be excited about learning again.
I hope that the projects that I plan to do with these cameras will help spark my students' creativity and will encourage them to work well in groups. I am excited to have them view and share their finished products to each other, their parents, and possibly the school and community.
