Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Our elementary school is an inner city public school located in Chicago, Illinois. Many of our students’ families face economic challenges and about 90% are from minority groups. Our families financially and culturally often cannot provide children with opportunities to develop science, Technology, Engineering, and Math skills such as those presented through a robotics program. These students are constantly faced with challenges and hardships, and yet strive to commit to doing their best every day. Our students are committed to researching and creating new robotic challenges to share with our communities.
Our students are proud of their robots and they want to be able to print pictures and create memorable DVDs of their accomplished robots and challenges.
My Project
I am requesting a Cannon Printer, photo paper, ink, and blank DVDs to give my students the opportunity to take memorable moments of their accomplishments made in the Robotics Program. Students will use the printer, inks, and photo paper to print pictures of their innovative robots and challenge missions. Students will also use the Cannon printer and inks to print a memorable picture on the face of the DVD making it unique and authentic. My students accomplished one of the biggest challenges, the team researched how robots can be used in disaster situations and created a rescue challenge. The students researched and build/designed a rescue challenge that assimilates a real disaster. The students tested the actual robot for the challenge and got it to work! It’s moments like these that inspire, motivate, engage, and provide our students with a level of accomplishment that are unforgettable.
These moments can be remembered by giving our students pictures/videos on DVD of their valuable achievements in the STEM program.
By providing a platform for students to be creative, innovative and problem solve we have the opportunity to dramatically impact our students' choices in STEM fields. With your support, our school will be able to recognize and provide pictures and videos to students that are committed and determined to grow in
