My students need to utilize the iPad to create digitally or as a research or reference tool when they need to refer to an image for inspiration. The iPad is also an excellent presentation tool!
My art students are generally made up of groups of individuals who come from many different backgrounds. The personalities of my students are not the same; therefore, it requires an assortment of strategies to manage my students effectively - kind of like a daily juggling act if you really think about it in a way! It sure never gets boring and never remains the same from day-to-day! Each day I find myself wearing the hats of a mentor, a role model & a disciplinarian when dealing with all of these spectacular personalities on an everyday basis.
Some of my students are more on the quiet side, who love to open a good book and dream about the possibilities and their next journey; others being quite the daredevils and would rather tackle the next assignment without giving a second thought to what went into the learning process, they just want to get right into the nitty-gritty of the project, others are more cautious...they'd like me to lead the way first and show them the outcome of how the final project is supposed to look at the end.
There are so many different personalities that make up my classes!
My Project
There are many amazing apps that are for use on the iPad for all types of art, but that is only the start of the creative ways that the iPad can be used in the art classroom. I'd like to be able to show my students how using an iPad will allow them to simulate 3-dimensional projects and replicate certain artistic styles. I'd like to be able to teach them that an iPad can be used for creating artist statements or to upload their own personal work by using the camera tools to document their artistic processes to an online art site. Our Art Club could also use it to create talking artwork and create an eBook! I think that with this first iPad in our art room, it will pave the way for many more to come finding innovative and practical ideas for using them (iPads) within our classroom as an everyday essential tool!
