This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The best thing about my class is that there isn't a typical day. EAST (Environmental and Spatial Technology) is a project-based class that gives students the opportunity to explore something that interests them, helps the community, and uses cutting edge technology while making a difference.

One thing our EAST Program does is support numerous programs in our school, as we are at Title I school and resources can be tight.

All the resources and materials are used by students as they work to make our community a better place. My students are over 60% ethnic minorities and over 70% low socioeconomic. They come from a variety of ethnic backgrounds and many are immigrants or the children of immigrants. Our school serves a largely rural and suburban community.

My Project

Our students work within the local community to solve a variety of community issues and support other organizations in the work that they do. A good deal of work involves photography, videography and digital mapping. Many projects would be made better by increasing the viewpoints students can offer.

This DJI Mavic will allow students to take arial photographs, videos and GPS data.

This will be incredibly helpful for projects that require a large amounts of data collection outdoors, particularly environmental conservation projects and outdoor public events. Currently we need this tool in order to video different types of land usage around our local watershed.
